Buck Drives Me Crazy – The Evolution of Buck Martinez’s Hairstyle

Continuing our stories on “Buck Drives Me Crazy”, I’ve noticed a lot of people talking about Buck Martinez’s hairstyles and how they are not a fan. The comments and tweets about his hairstyle has prompted me to write about Buck Martinez’s hairstyle. So, let’s get it on.

Now, Buck Martinez has been with the Toronto Blue Jays’ organization for a very, very long time. Joining the Blue Jays in 1981 as a player, Buck played until 1986 where he saw some of his best years as a major leaguer. Buck had the stache and the long hair look at this time and it was a pretty reasonable look for a ball player back in the 80’s. So I got no beef with that. Observe the look below.

Buck Martinez when he played for the Blue Jays

Hairstyle of Buck Martinez back when he played for the Blue Jays

So time passes along and guess what, Buck Martinez is back with the Toronto Blue Jays and he becomes the manager of the team in the early 2000s. That’s a lot of time passed by and his dark brown hair is slowly changing to a grey fox look. When Buck first started as the manager, he still had the brown hair, but when his time was about to end as the Toronto Blue Jays manager, the hair changed to grey. I guess that’s what happens to you when your team has to face the Yankees and Red Sox and never get a sniff at the playoffs. Here’s a pic of him blow a “Big League Chew” bubblegum.

Buck Martinez as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays

Buck's silver hair is starting to show

So what’s next for Buck Martinez? His love and knowledge for baseball also lead him to do broadcasting. He did some broadcasting for the Toronto Blue Jays before his managerial job, but as a colour commentator. But after he got axed as a manager, he would eventually be a part of the TBS broadcast where his hairstyle started to transform to something that we slowly started to make fun of. Looking at this picture below, it looks like he’s got some great people in the back to prepare his fair and hair because there’s no way he would ever do that on his own. He’s supporting the middle parted semi-long hair style with a long bend on the left side of his face (if you are in Buck’s view) and it doesn’t look half bad.

Buck Martinez during his TBS days

Buck Martinez sporting a parted hair look with the long bend of one side.

Which leads to current day. Buck is back with the Toronto Blue Jays broadcast team for Sportsnet and he’s the play by play man this time. Although he got the promotion from colour to play by play, I think his hair took a step down. Still supporting the parted hair look, his hair just looks awful every time he does the pre-game. Just take a look at the hairstyles at this blog post by “The Blue Jay Hunter”. It’s also funny to note that Tabby and Buck had matching shirts. That is so funny. They must have went shopping together during that road trip. Just awful!!!

So, what can we do with Buck’s hair? How can we make it better or should we just let it be and make it a promotion like @markchech suggests. Wouldn’t it be great to have a Buck Martinez Hairpiece day where the first 10,000 fans would get a hairpiece. I’m sure everyone would get one, unlike Jose Bautista bobblehead day where you had to go one and a half hours early to get one. Could you imagine the Rogers Centre crowd with silver hairpieces. That would be hilarious!!! And why not? Buck’s been with this organization for so many years, maybe it’s time we honour him. I mean we don’t even have Flashback Fridays anymore. I know Ace would love it. Just look at that hair piece he’s rocking at the top of this post!

Anyways, let me know what you think about Buck’s hair or if the Toronto Blue Jays should do a Buck Martinez hair day. Maybe if we get enough support we can make it happen! If you don’t like his current hairstyle, maybe these suggestions would be better:

Buck Martinez with a Faux Hawk

Maybe Buck Martinez should grow a David Beckham Faux Hawk

Buck Martinez with Dragon Ball Z hairstyle

Maybe Buck Martinez should grow some Dragon Ball Z hair

Buck Martinez with a Lady Gaga Hairstyle + Sunglasses

I heard Lady Gaga's hair is stylish.. Maybe Buck Martinez should try it out... Maybe not... Keep the sunglasses

Buck Martinez with a Dreadlock Hairstyle

How about a page from Manny Ramirez's book. Dreadlocks look alright on him.

FINALLY…. WHY NOT BIEBERFY BUCK MARTINEZ!!!!

Buck Martinez with a Bieber Hairstyle

Wow, that's scary looking. He almost looks like Justin Bieber...

Sorry all, but I didn’t start watching until the beginning of the 5th inning.. I’m sure there were many Buck Blunders before that. Anyways, we got some down :)

Buck Blunder 1 – In the bottom of the 6th inning, Buck mentions something about David Price, where he was going to say “shoulder”, but quickly stops and says something else, which escapes my mind right now..

Buck Blunder 2 – When Buck mention’s Morrow’s line, he says he went 4.2 innings when he really went 5.1 innings. (Contributed by @iainsut)
